BOTOX ®
Treatment of frown lines using muscle relaxant therapy (Botox®/Vistabel®/Dysport®)
This is a specially prepared naturally occurring protein
that is derived from bacteria. When injected into a muscle it causes
it to become weakened or inactivated. It stops the muscle from functioning
by blocking neuromuscular transmission i.e. stops the chemical messages
from the nerve to the muscle.
The process takes about 10 minutes. An extremely fine needle is used to
inject the Botox® into the appropriate area.
The injections may cause some swelling and redness, which will resolve
in about an hour. It is a relatively pain free procedure.
The treatment will take effect after 7 to 14 days and will last between
3 – 6 months. It is becoming an increasingly popular treatment with
very few reported side effects. Side effects of this treatment are rare.
As with any injections there is a risk
of bruising. Occasionally a headache may be experienced. Any concerns
must be raised with your practitioner.
It is unusual for a candidate not to be suitable for treatment. A thorough
consultation is carried out and any medications being taken are discussed.
Any blood thinning medications taken may increase your risk of bruising,
there is no need to take pain relief prior to treatment, this procedure
carried out by the right practitioner is relatively pain free. |
